Light up your life
We recently bought a new home. We thought we thought of everything, we had ideas for the kitchen, new furniture and the landscaping. The one thing we didn’t think of at all was the Lighting.
We had no idea how much of a difference good lighting can make on a home. The first dawn came, we switched on the lights and ugh … I still needed a flash light.
I went to Home Depot® and to my surprise there were 100’s of light bulbs of all shapes, sizes, functionality and prices. I mean I found a light bulb that played music…CRAZY.
I then had to take a deep dive into to lighting. I learned about Kelvin and Lumens and all about smart lightbulbs. I made a short list of some of my favorite lights and info you need to light up your life.
First thing you should know about lights is what is a Kelvin and what is a Lumen.
A Lumen is the amount of light that comes from a lightbulb. It is a similar measurement to watts – the higher the lumens the brighter the bulb.

A Kevin is the color of the light. low Kelvins are about 1900, usually orange tinted with the higher Kelvins usually in the 10000’s and have a blue tint. 4800 is in the middle and is close to pure white light.

Basically you want higher Kevin and Lumens in your kitchen and garage and lower Lumens and Kelvins in your dining room and bedrooms. The lower the lumens the better the love life 🙂
Nowadays, you don’t have to choose just one though. Welcome the smart light bulb. There is a plethora of new lighting options you can control from your phone and they are fantastic. Here are a few of my favorites.
